Nickel(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate (Ni(NO₃)₂*6H₂O), Purity: > 98%

Description

A highly water soluble crystalline nickel source, nickel nitrate is suitable for applications involving nitrates and lower (acidic) pH levels. A specific metal cation and the nitrate anion are the inorganic salts that make up all metallic nitrates. With a total formula weight of 62.05., the nitrate anion is a univalent (-1 charge) polyatomic ion made up of one nitrogen atom ionically bound to three oxygen atoms (Formula: NO3). In general, nitrate compounds dissolve in water. Additionally, nitrate materials act as oxidizers. Nitrate compounds have the ability to combine with hydrocarbons to form flammable mixtures. Nitrates are great starting points for the synthesis of compounds with ultra high purity, specific catalysts, and materials at the nanoscale (nanoparticles and nanopowders).

Applications

When making cellulose acetate polymers (CA), nickel (II) nitrate hexahydrate can be added to regulate the porosity of the polymer. Well-defined pores form on the surface of the CA matrix as a result of the formation of Ni(NO3)2.6H2O aggregates in the polymer matrix during solidification and the strong interaction between Ni, nitrate, and water molecules. It is utilized as a precursor to create nickel (II) Schiff base, which is then used to create NiO nanoparticles using the solid-state thermal decomposition process. as a dopant in the Ni-Ceria catalyst that is being prepared for the acetylene's selective hydrogenation. In addition, it is preferred as a cathode material in iron-air batteries.
