Yttrium Oxide (Y2O3) Powder
Yttrium oxide (Y2O3) is one of the most important yttrium compounds. Y2O3 can exist in cubic, hexagonal, and monoclinic crystal structures; however, the cubic structure is considered to be the most stable under ambient conditions and withstand high temperatures. Yttrium oxide powder has a stark white appearance. It presents high refractory performance (melting point ∼2450 °C), good thermal conductivity (33 W⋅m−1 K−1), high corrosion resistance, low toxicity, superior chemical stability as well as excellent mechanical properties. Mechanical and optical properties of Y2O3 are utilized in ceramic structures to obtain high-strength transparent ceramics used for IR windows. Y2O3 nanoparticles are well known for their antioxidant and radical scavenging ability under various conditions. Hence, they are used in various different biomedical applications. Y2O3 powder is also used in; superconductors, strengthened steels, electronic devices, coatings, microwave filters, phosphors, plasma and flat-panel displays, sensors, and zirconia stabilization.
