Yttrium Oxide (Y2O3) Powder

Yttrium oxide (Y₂O₃) is one of the most important yttrium compounds. Y₂O₃ can exist in cubic, hexagonal, and monoclinic crystal structures; however, the cubic structure is considered to be the most stable under ambient conditions and withstand high temperatures. Yttrium oxide powder has a stark white appearance. It presents high refractory performance (melting point ∼2450 °C), good thermal conductivity (33 W⋅m⁻¹ K⁻¹), high corrosion resistance, low toxicity, superior chemical stability as well as excellent mechanical properties. Mechanical and optical properties of Y₂O₃ are utilized in ceramic structures to obtain high-strength transparent ceramics used for IR windows. Y₂O₃ nanoparticles are well known for their antioxidant and radical scavenging ability under various conditions. Hence, they are used in various different biomedical applications. Y₂O₃ powder is also used in; superconductors, strengthened steels, electronic devices, coatings, microwave filters, phosphors, plasma and flat-panel displays, sensors, and zirconia stabilization.
