Description

Aluminum chloride (AlCl3) is a pure compound formed by the exothermic reaction of metallic aluminum and hydrogen chloride (HCl) in the temperature range of 650-750 °C. It is majorly utilized as a catalyst in Friedel-Crafts reactions. The vapor phase co-reduction of hydrogen with other metal halides has applications as structural materials or compounds with useful thermoelectric, magnetic, and oxidation resistance properties.

Applications

Aluminum Chloride materials can be used in many applications, especially batteries. Aluminum ions act as charge carriers, thus enhancing the development of the battery.
