Description

Ball Mill

Ball Mill is a grinder that blends or grinds materials for various applications. Impact force enables size reduction in feed material. The cylindrical shell rotates around its horizontal axis. The main element enabling grinding is the hard and small balls in the ball mill. These balls are usually made of steel. The inner surface of the hollow shell is coated with a abrasion resistant material. The balls are lifted up as the shell rotates and after an angle of 60° they drop down. This free falling movement creates an impact where particles are reduced in size. Metal ores can be grinded with ball grinder as well.

Materials such as pigments, feldspar for pottery or coal are grinded by ball mills. Process can be done under various environments sucgh as dry or wet. The main mechanism which ensures the size reduction is the critical speed which can be defined as the speed at which steel balls are responsible for the size reduction mechanism. The smaller steel balls are used, the smaller final product is obtained. Design of such steel balls is the most important parameter affecting properties of the final product. Steel balls should have the highest sensity among the particles in hollow shell and they should be bigger in size than the largest particle of the feed material.

Three Roll Milling is better than conventional mixing methods since it produces materials with;

  • Smaller particles sizes
  • Narrow distribution of sizes
  • Better oinment stability
  • Easy control quality

The advantages of Roll to Roll PE-CVD:

  • Low cost of installation
  • Low cost of grinding
  • Capacity and fineness of the process can be adjusted just by changing the balls
  • Suitable for both batch and continuous operation
  • Suitable for open and closed circuit grinding
  • It can be applied to any material without hardness limitation

Applications:

  • Mechanical Alloying
  • Refractory Material Production
  • Paints
  • Dressing Processes
  • Selevtive Laser Sintering
